Koji Acquaviva Dreher

Austin Zen Center
Austin, TX

Koji began practicing Zen at the age of twenty at the San Francisco Zen Center. From 2003 to 2011 he was a student and staff member at each of SFZC’s residential practice centers (City Center, Green Gulch Farm, and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center). He was ordained as a Buddhist priest in 2008 by Rev. Koshō McCall at Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, India. In 2011 he co-founded the Mid City Zen Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He’s also served regularly as visiting teacher at the Austin Zen Center. Koji received authorization to teach independently from Rev. Koshō McCall in 2019. In addition to practicing with teachers of the Zen tradition, Koji has also studied with many great teachers of Tibetan Buddhism including Ven. Tenzin Chogkyi, Jon Landaw, and Rob Preece. In 2014, Koji trained as a hatha yoga teacher at the Sivananda Ashram in Val-Morin, Quebec. Koji currently lives in Minneapolis (Dakota land) with his partner. He’s increasingly focused on topics of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility; using his positionality and privilege (white, able-bodied, socialized male) to disrupt dominant narratives in meditation and yoga communities.
