Fugan Eugene Bush began formal practice in 1982 and received Dharma transmission from Katherine Thanas in the lineage of Suzuki Roshi in 2010. Gene became a visiting teacher at the Arcata Zen Group in 2013 and currently serves as Head Teacher. He continues to welcome and encourage Arcata Zen Group's ongoing relationships with former visiting and guiding teachers. Gene also serves as one of the Practice Leaders of Santa Cruz Zen Center with occasional forays to Hartford Street Zen Center and to Queer Dharma at San Francisco Zen Center. He teaches the traditional practice of sewing Buddha’s Robe. He is retired from his paid work after 37 years as a public school teacher in the Santa Cruz area. He is most interested in the ways in which formal practice trains us for everyday life.
