Cynthia Kear studied with Darlene Cohen who ordained her in 2008 and gave her Dharma Transmission in 2010. She is Guiding Teacher for Great Spirit Sangha in San Francisco, Guiding Teacher for Women of the Way Sangha and senior teacher for the Meditation and Recovery Sangha (affiliated with both SFZC and Hartford Street Zen Center. Additionally, and simultaneously, she worked in the field of clinical education most recently serving as Executive Director to a national collaboration dedicated to ameliorating the opioid epidemic. She retired from this position in June 2022. Cynthia, in the Suzuki Roshi lineage, practices as a Monk in the Marketplace.
